Of One Accord
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Shrewsbury-based choir, Of One Accord, enjoys success on the national and international stage, having sung in York Minster, and undertaken tours in Belgium, Germany and Canada.
The choir’s repertoire ranges from sacred music and show tunes to classic pop from the 1960s and 70s as well as modern songs and traditional folk songs. They are a wonderfully versatile group of over 50 accomplished performers and we look forward to hearing them at Festival Drayton Centre.
Greenfields Africa.
Based at St. Peter’s Church in Stoke on Tern, Greenfields Africa raises funds to relieve the effects of extreme poverty in Africa. In 2005, £40,000 was raised to build St. Peter’s Church and Community Centre in Greenfields Township in South Africa affording the disadvantaged residents of the area not only a place for worship, weddings and funerals, but a versatile building that houses a permanent eye clinic, AIDS advisory clinic, sewing workshop, school classroom and soup kitchen.
The fund has also provided sound, durable housing for old people who are unable to afford proper shelter and has supplied vital medical equipment for detecting jaundice in newly born babies. Work continues in providing sanitation and washing facilities in child-care centres. We have a well-established network of people who knit baby clothes for distribution to needy families with young babies.
