Do you always cope as well as you would like to with life’s problems? Do you experience anxiety or panic? Do you find yourself at the mercy of your emotions? Do you experience ‘stress’ related aches and pains? Are you unhappy with your behaviour in certain situations, for example at work, with friends or with your family? Many of us find ourselves just about managing everyday life. All too frequently our ideas about what we are and how we operate in the world do not give us a clear understanding of why we feel the way we do; and, more importantly, disguise the fact that we ourselves can do something to bring about a constructive change in the way we are. Over one hundred years ago, F.M. Alexander developed a technique for personal change that is based on the anatomical and physiological reality of human being. Because Alexander’s technique is based on practical reality, if you apply it then it will work. The Alexander Technique is often misrepresented as a therapy (although it can have a therapeutic effect) or to do with the ‘new age’ movement. This isn’t the case. Its real value is as a new way of thinking about yourself and how you go about living. The Technique arises out of this new conception of what our lives are about, and provides a practical means for living in accordance with this. Doing so will allow you to begin to solve or deal with the variety of problems life presents by putting how you live on to a more conscious basis.
