THE BAND OF THE MERCIAN REGIMENT at the Festival Drayton Centre

By kind permission of Lt Col F Cuttle, Commanding Officer, 4th Battalion, The Mercian Regiment

The Mercian Regiment, so named because it is generally located within the ancient English Kingdom of Mercia, was formed on 1st September 2007 at Tamworth Castle, when three Regular Regiments merged to form The Mercian Regiment. They were ; The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment and The Staffordshire Regiment.

The West Midlands Regiment and The King's Cheshire Regiment also combined to form a volunteer battalion, including the Band, which is now part of the Army Reserve and named The Band of the Mercian Regiment.

Based in Wolverhampton, the Band is made up of volunteer Reserve Musicians, including men and women from many varied backgrounds and civilian careers. In wartime, the Band has a medical support role and many members have served overseas.

They undertake a huge variety of performances locally, nationally and internationally, including parades, concerts and charitable events. In recent years The Band visited Cyprus and last year undertook Public Duties in London for the Royal Residences and performed in The Household Division Beating Retreat on Horse Guards Parade.
