Stewart Harrison

Tuesday 7th April

- Friday 8th May

Stewart Harrison exhibition at the Festival Drayton Centre

I began collaging in 2020, as a creative distraction from work & the Covid lockdown. My work falls into three main categories: figurative collages, abstract collages and 3-D assemblages.

The figurative works are inspired by the Dadaists & Surrealists and feature incongruity, irreverence, especially towards the human body & gender, and play with ideas of scale.

Recently, I’ve been working on A4 collages using old books, which I take apart to exploit the random tears and shapes in the fabrics & papers of the bindings.

This results in abstract designs which rely on harmonies and contrasts of colours & layered textures. I liken them to flower arranging, but more durable, and hence a good investment…

I recently retired from a 35-year career in education during which I taught, German, French, History of Art and Photography. When not collaging, I’m writing and recording songs, playing in a local folk-pop band or taking photos.

My wife would love you to buy something, because we need the space.
